Gyeonggi-do has begun developing Korea’s first artificial intelligence–based “Immigrant Portal,” launching the project at a kick-off briefing held on the 18th at the provincial government’s Northern Building. The portal will serve as an integrated online platform enabling immigrants to easily access policy and daily-life information without linguistic or cultural barriers.

Designed to improve information accessibility for approximately 810,000 immigrants living in Gyeonggi-do, the portal aims to strengthen digital governance and support their settlement in local communities. Key features include integrated access to administrative information on immigration, employment, education, housing, healthcare, and welfare; an AI chatbot offering multilingual Q&A; an online community space for immigrants; and coordinated information in collaboration with related public institutions.

A notable component is the introduction of a generative AI–powered multilingual counseling system, the first of its kind in Korea. This system provides tailored guidance on residence, labor, and daily-life issues, supported by professional translation in six languages and real-time Google translation to minimize language gaps across different linguistic groups.

The portal is scheduled for official launch in the first half of 2026, following a six-month development period. Once completed, it will consolidate scattered immigration-related policies, projects, and support services into a single platform, thereby improving convenience for immigrants and enhancing administrative efficiency. Location-based functions will also allow users to explore nearby hospitals, schools, cultural events, and other essential local information by region.

Officials from the Gyeonggi-do Bureau of Immigration and Multicultural Society, the Gyeonggi-do Immigration & Social Integration Support Center, the contracted development agency, and representatives of local immigrant communities attended the meeting to review the project’s direction and detailed design plans.

‘경기도 이주민 포털’은 도내 약 81만 명의 이주민이 겪는 정보 접근성 문제를 해소하고, 생활 정착을 지원하기 위한 디지털 행정 조성이 목적이다. 주요 기능은 ▲출입국·고용·교육·주거·의료·복지 등 주요 행정정보 통합 제공 ▲AI 챗봇 기반 다국어 질의응답 ▲이주민 커뮤니티 공간 운영 ▲유관기관 연계를 통한 종합 정보 제공 등이다.

특히 전국 최초로 생성형 AI를 기반으로 한 다국어 상담 기능을 도입해 체류·노무·생활 등 분야별 맞춤형 안내가 가능하며, 6개 언어 전문 번역과 실시간 구글 번역 기능으로 언어권별 정보격차를 최소화한다.

포털은 2026년 상반기 서비스 개통을 목표로 6개월간 구축 작업이 진행된다. 개발 후에는 기관별로 분산된 이주민 지원 정책과 사업 정보를 한곳에서 볼 수 있어, 이주민뿐 아니라 행정기관의 업무 효율성도 높아질 것으로 기대된다. 위치기반 서비스를 활용한 이주민 커뮤니티 운영으로 지역별 의료기관, 교육기관, 문화행사 등 생활 밀착형 지역 정보도 함께 제공할 예정이다.

보고회에는 경기도 이민사회국, 경기도이민사회통합지원센터, 용역 수행업체 관계자, 도내 이주민 대표 등이 참석해 사업 추진 방향과 세부 설계 계획을 공유했다.
